A Techie Traveler's Guide to Save the Battery Life of Your Gadgets

When on a business or a vacation trip, it is a usual thing for any traveler to bring gadgets in order to stay connected with families and friends, to be productive at work, and to be entertained at the same time. With prolonged and excessive use of these travel gadgets however, battery life depreciates. Nowadays, battery life on portable gadgets is given much attention on product reviews. After all, a large portion of users believe that the strength of any device is also best attributed to its battery power capacity.

For a techie traveler who is into many surprises during road trips, battery life is a valued commodity. Any techie traveler can’t afford to lose battery on a laptop while in the middle of uploading photos online, or get disconnected during a very important phone call.

If you’re a techie traveler who doesn't want to see your battery indicator run low, the following are important guidelines to observe while on a trip. These helpful tips will apply on any device, which you intend to bring with you on your next trip.

  • Turn off your gadget when not in use.  Turning off your gadgets when not in use ensures that battery life is saved for important use at a later time and will extend it instead of leaving your device idle.

  • Disable or turn off the wireless capability of your laptop or gadgets when you’re not using it. Enabled wireless adapters or Wi-Fi function on these devices even when not in use will still utilize battery power even when left idle.

  • Whether you’re working on an important project on your laptop or just playing games, listening to music with your iPhone, reading a material on your e-reader, or composing messages on your android phone, it is advisable to reduce brightness on these devices, especially when working on a well-lit area. Undeniably, maximizing g the brightness level of these gadgets can also contribute to fast battery consumption.

  • Stick on a single-task on your device. If possible, don’t charge your smartphone or any USB-enabled devices through your laptop. Any gadget plugged into the USB port of the laptop consumes battery power. It is highly recommended to use a different power source for external hard drives to prevent the laptop’s battery from getting exhausted. Same goes when you’re using your phone to listen to music, avoid playing games at the same time, if possible. Doing multiple tasks on a multifunctional device also excessively use its RAM, which then consumes more battery power. If possible, it is also recommended to properly set the power management settings of your computer for a more efficient battery life.

  • Lastly, do not overcharge your gadgets’ battery. When fully charged, batteries must be completely disconnected from the power outlet. This allows the battery last longer and performs better.

So to any techie traveler, who is already planning out his next vacation, better yet consider this recommendation before heading straight to your destination. You may then realize that your gadgets will be useless because you have insufficient battery supply when you need them the most.

5 Must-Have Travel Gadgets

Traveling has always been a passion to many nowadays. If work schedules and finances allow, many would want to spend quality time with families and friends away from home to unwind from the ever hectic schedules, relax from the ever-demanding jobs, and take a break from their everyday routine. Not to mention, the luxury to enjoy all-new mouth-watering delicacies, shop for cultural products, meet different people, spend the night in hotels, and capture those priceless adventurous moments. The thought of it makes me want to consider visiting another tourist destination soon. More than anything else, traveling can be a worthwhile experience when you have travel gadgets to get by with.

I used to travel a lot and what makes the experience a lot exhilarating are these five gadgets that keeps me connected with my loved-ones and friends, and at the same time entertained.

Phablet
Long flights can be very boring at times, especially if you can’t sleep. More so, there is not much to enjoy with the scenery by the window when you’re 6000 feet above the ground. For an avid reader like me, I spend long waiting hours on the plane reading a favourite book. If not, I play games, listen to songs, watch movies, or scribble notes about my travel escapade. However, you can’t just tag along your all-time favourite book, game console, and portable DVD player and then suffer a backache for having to carry them all. This is where phablets come in handy. Yes, you read that right, phone + tablet. A smartphone and a tablet combined in a single unit, which allows you to enjoy the features and functionalities of both a smartphone and a tablet. A phablet is perfect for listening to music, reading e-books, playing games, surfing the Internet, watching movies, composing notes, managing emails, making phone calls, and composing messages. With one device alone, you can be productive, remain connected, and entertained all at the same time.

Powerbank
Energy consumption has been a primary commodity since the widespread use of laptops, smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and phablets. For any seasoned traveller, large capacity battery life is a necessity. One can’t afford to lose power while in the middle of working on an important document on the computer or phone going dead while talking to someone. With the power bank, you can be at peace that even during long trips when there is no access to electricity, you could still continue to use your devices and get your tasks done without delay. Moreover, since power banks use micro USB or mini USB ports, it can be used to supply energy for several devices.

GPS Navigation System
Daredevil travellers have the tendency to explore new and never before visited destinations. Although tourist guides may be helpful, some of us are better off exploring various locations on our own. Over the traditional maps and compass, the GPS Navigation System provides a more accurate view of the destination determines location distance, gives accurate and alternate route to prevent a traveller from getting lost, and surprisingly locate favourite establishments like parks, malls, restaurants, scenic spots, movie theaters and many more. Vacations and road trips have never gotten easier with a GPS system.

DSLR camera or video cameras
Who wouldn’t want to capture those memorable moments spent with your family and friends? Photos or pictures and videos are likened to that of precious jewels. Travellers can’t live without their cameras. As for me, a DSLR camera is just the right addition to the rest of must-have travel gadgets. Not only does it prove that you’ve been to that certain place, it also relives those most cherished moments you’ve had during the trip. There’s no telling if you’d still get the chance to come back on the same place, at least you have souvenirs of your once-in-a-lifetime memories to reminisce by.

Laptop
Though not everyone is into travel blogging, a laptop can be a very important tool during vacations, especially when storing, editing, and sharing videos and photos over the Web. Oftentimes, we can’t wait to get our photos and videos uploaded and shared with friends. Apparently, our smartphones and phablets aren’t reliable for handling such task, thus a laptop plays a vital role. For business trips, a laptop is considered a necessity. Business executives and even students, while on vacation, could still continue working on some unfinished tasks during free time. After all, laptops have wider screens that make it more convenient to use than smartphones, tablets, or phablets.

Travel gadgets among travellers may vary depending on needs and interests. Regardless of what gadgets you may want to bring during your road trips, what is important is that you get to enjoy every waking hour of your travel escapade.
